We Started With One Question

Why does nobody teach the practical side of money management until after we've already made expensive mistakes?

The Beginning

Back in 2019, a handful of us sat around a kitchen table in Wollongong, frustrated. We'd all helped friends navigate financial disasters that could've been avoided with basic knowledge.

One person buried under credit card debt because nobody explained compound interest. Another who signed a car loan without reading the terms. A cousin who thought superannuation was something to worry about later.

We weren't finance experts. Just people tired of watching others struggle with things that should've been taught in school.

Early team discussions about financial education gaps
Early 2020

First Workshop

Started with seven people in a community centre. Covered budgeting basics and debt management. Nothing fancy, but two attendees avoided bankruptcy that year.

Mid 2022

Digital Shift

COVID forced us online. Turned out to be better. People could learn at their own pace, rewatch confusing parts, and ask questions without feeling judged.

Late 2024

Real Impact

Over 1,800 people through our programs. Some now teaching their kids about money. Others finally buying homes. That's what keeps us going.

Learning From Mistakes

I'm Callum. Made every financial mistake you can imagine in my twenties. Maxed out three credit cards, bought a car I couldn't afford, and thought investing meant buying whatever stock my mate mentioned at the pub.

Spent years digging out of that hole. And I had a business degree. The education system taught me economic theory but not how to read a bank statement or spot predatory lending.

That gap bothered me. So when a few friends with similar stories suggested we do something about it, I jumped in. We're not here to make anyone rich or promise perfect financial futures. Just trying to share what we learned the hard way so others don't have to.

What Drives Us Forward

Real Conversations

Every month we run open sessions where people share what's working and what isn't. These honest talks shape how we teach.
